“First we make our habits, then our habits make us.”

– Charles C. Noble

Let’s start by understanding what a habit is; James Clear defines a habit as the small decisions you make and actions you perform everyday. Habits enhance your productivity. Your success is as good as your preparation.

To succeed in your academic endeavours you need to build a system that enables you to succeed. This systems will be made up of habits. Your success at the end of each semester is linked to your daily study habit.

How to build a study Habit

  • Find a technique that works for you. Various study techniques includes- pomodoro, spaced repetition ….
  • Block out time to study everyday — studying requires commitment so ensure that your daily study time is incorporated into your daily schedule
  • Get enough sleep daily. — assimilation is easier when your body is rested and your mind is sharp; a good sleep also helps you retain knowledge.
  • Never study in bed. — your bed’s primary function is rest
  • Have a study area. — find an environment that works for you and make it into your study area.
  • Eat healthily — what you consume goes a long way in improving your productivity level.
  • Test yourself on concepts learned — use online quizzes, practice exams, and or flashcards.
  • Do not neglect your self care routines but find a good balance as this could help you avoid burnout.
  • Lastly repeat this everyday.

In conclusion, give your self room for continuous improvements, keep working on these techniques until you successfully find what works for you best. Ask the HOLY SPIRIT to help you.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. –Colossians 3:23
